Directed by Thomas Ngijol and Karole Rocher, Black Snake, la légende du serpent noir (Black Snake, the Legend of the Black Snake) is a French comedy released in 2019. Written by Thomas Ngijol and Jean-Pascal Zadi, this superhero movie parody will be available on Netflix on November 12, 2025. It stars Thomas Ngijol, Karole Rocher, Michel Gohou, and Édouard Baer.
After years spent in Paris, Clotaire Sangala returns to his native Africa. Raised by a Chinese grandfather who is a martial arts expert, he knows nothing about his parents' heroic past. Addicted to women and the easy life, he finds himself unwittingly drawn into an unlikely mission: to become Black Snake, a masked and ultra-stylish superhero destined to free his people from the dictator Ezechias.
Combining social satire and offbeat humor, the film subverts the conventions of Hollywood productions, injecting them with an African tone and Thomas Ngijol's unique burlesque energy.
The film marks the second collaboration between Thomas Ngijol and Karole Rocher after Fastlife (2014). Produced by Mandarin Production and distributed by Mars Films, it pays homage to kung fu films and superheroes while addressing, in a comical tone, the question of African identity and popular power. Michel Gohou, a figure in Ivorian cinema, plays a colorful ally, while Édouard Baer adds an extra touch of derision.
This comedy is for viewers looking for absurd, energetic entertainment rooted in Afro-European culture. Suitable for ages 10 and up, it humorously revisits the myth of the vigilante hero.
