With its sumptuous sets, magical bestiary and humanist message, Abominable follows in the tradition of great animated adventures that are both funny and touching.
Abominable will be available on Netflix from August 17, 2025.
Synopsis: It all begins on the roof of a building in Shanghai, with the unlikely meeting of a young teenager, the intrepid Yi, with a young Yeti. The young girl and her friends Jin and Peng set out to bring their strange new friend, now known as Everest, home to his family on the roof of the world. But to accomplish this mission, our trio will have to race against Burnish, a powerful man who intends to capture the creature because it looks so much like the one he met as a child.
Abominable is aimed at a young audience while remaining accessible to adults. The plot is based on simple but powerful themes: family, friendship, nature and freedom. Humor is omnipresent, driven by the interactions between the children and Yeti, a tender, inquisitive creature who quickly develops a strong emotional bond with his human companions. Visual gags and funny situations are balanced by more moving moments.
The journey undertaken by Yi and his friends takes them through varied and beautifully depicted regions of China: mountains, forests, flowery plains and misty lakes. The animation gives pride of place to nature and the marvelous, with numerous sequences where magic comes to life in contact with the Yeti, named Everest. Scenes of landscape transformation or musical elevation offer a poetic visual spectacle.
Everest Yeti possesses supernatural powers linked to nature, which he uses to evade the adults who want to capture him. But it's the children, and Yi in particular, who carry the story through their initiative, empathy and courage. Each character is well-defined: Yi is determined and dreamy, Jin is an inward-looking but protective teenager, and Peng brings a touch of cheerful naivety.
