A hard-hitting, pulse-pounding thriller... That’s what Ric Roman Waugh serves up with Angel Has Fallen, the follow-up to Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen, due in theaters on August 28, 2019. The film again stars Gerard Butler (Geostorm, Hunter Killer...) in the role of Mike Banning, a protective agent for the President played by Morgan Freeman (Casse-Noisette et les Quatre Royaumes, The Poison Rose...).
Also in the cast, we find Michael Landes (Gold, The Enforcer...), Danny Huston (Stan & Ollie, The Last Days of Mr. Brown...), Tim Blake Nelson (Colossal, The Heist of the Century...), Nick Nolte (The Ridiculous 6, Honey All Over the Head...), Piper Perabo (Looper, Black Butterfly...), Jada Pinkett Smith (Bad Moms, Girls Trip...) and Lance Reddick (Fringe, John Wick: Parabellum...).
Synopsis:
The victim of a staged setup, Mike Banning, a Secret Service agent, is accused of masterminding a plot to assassinate U.S. President Allan Trumbull. Hunted by the FBI, he must fight to survive and uncover who is threatening the president’s life.
Review:
The Fall of the President is an entertaining feature-length film packed with action, not shy about explosions and shootouts. It might be a touch over-the-top in that department, but the bottom line is that it works—the audience is treated to non-stop spectacle from start to finish. A brisk, well-paced movie, punctuated by calmer, welcome moments that give the dialogue room to breathe.
We regret, however, that the film is perhaps a touch too loud, with explosions, car crashes and gunfire blasting in your ears. That said, The Fall of the President remains excellent entertainment and will no doubt thrill fans of the franchise as well as lovers of action cinema drenched in patriotism and relentless war-highs.
