Synopsis

Alexandre once again gets into trouble with his father Jacques. He shouldn't be, because Jacques has just passed away, but Jacques, or rather his spirit, is still there, grumbling at his side. And as Alexandre is the only one to see him, and therefore speak to him, his mother, wife and brother begin to worry about his strange behavior.

Review

Director Eric Besnard 's L'esprit de famille is a highly personal film, since he decided to write a story in tribute to his late father. From the director of 2015's Le goût des merveilles comes a comedy that's both funny and moving, in which Guillaume de Tonquédec, a writer so in love with his work that he misses out on the lives of those closest to him, begins to "see" and converse with his deceased father, played by François Berléand. Joining them is Josiane Balasko, very touching in the role of the strong-willed widow who has to fill the void created by her husband's death. And let's not forget the brother, Jéremy Lopez, who is kind and self-effacing, but who must also confront his own demons and do his best to support his wife, Marie Julie Baup, who is suffering from severe depression.

The result is a film full of humor, at times laugh-out-loud funny, but also very moving, showing that everyone grieves in their own way, but that in the end, everyone suffers, just in different ways. In short, a feel-good film!
