The film follows Audrey and Jérôme, a married couple who decide to spend a weekend with their respective lovers. Their plan spirals out of control when they both pick the same countryside house for their secret getaways. As the children arrive and more family members show up, the situation evolves into a full-blown machine of pretence.
With this intimate, lie- and appearance-driven family lock-in, Tout nous sourit reworks some vaudeville tropes while placing them in a contemporary setting. Mélissa Drigeard crafts a comedy focused on the strains of a couple, family life, and the emotional compromises that eventually surface.
Presented at the Alpe d'Huez International Comedy Film Festival 2020, the film took home the Jury's Special Prize, while Elsa Zylberstein and Stéphane De Groodt were recognized for their performances.
When the film hit theaters, Elsa Zylberstein and Stéphane De Groodt looked back at their characters, Audrey and Jérôme, in a video interview conducted by Sortiraparis.
