Stillwater, Tom McCarthy's gripping drama-thriller featuring Matt Damon, Camille Cottin and Abigail Breslin, will air on M6 on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 9:10 p.m.
Bill Baker, a former oil worker from Oklahoma, regularly travels to Marseille to see his daughter Allison. Behind bars for a murder she swears she didn’t commit, she passes him a fresh lead that could prove her innocence.
Not speaking French and unfamiliar with the city, Bill tries to carry on the investigation by himself. His encounter with Virginie, an actress played by Camille Cottin, and with Virginie’s daughter gradually opens up a different day-to-day life for him, far from his American bearings.
Presented at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, Stillwater was filmed largely in Marseille. The city is not just a backdrop: the differences in language, culture and social milieu directly shape Bill's journey and his growing closeness to Virginie and Maya.
Tom McCarthy, director of Spotlight, teams up with Thomas Bidegain, Noé Debré and Marcus Hinchey to tell a story poised between a criminal investigation and a family drama. The cast also features Anne Le Ny and Moussa Maaskri.
