"La Nuit du 12" was discovered during the Cannes Film Festival, and after a nice success in theaters, Dominik Moll's film won six Césars, including the one for best film! Rediscover our review of the feature film, crowned best film of the year.

After its success at the Cannes Film Festival and in theaters, The Night of the 12th won six César awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (for Bastien Bouillon), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound.

Trailer of La Nuit du 12

The subject of the film is clear from the introduction: it is the story of an unsolved crime, the murder of young Clara, found on the night of the 12th. Around her, many suspects, all men. The worst thing is that all of them could have committed the crime, but Yohan, the policeman in charge of the investigation, does not manage to bring any of the suspects to justice, for lack of evidence...

Far from the spectacular of American thrillers, here, realism is advocated. The crime takes place in a small remote province where everyone knows each other and where there is a lack of means... The investigation is often fascinating, but it is not what interests the filmmaker behind Only the Beasts the most. Here, it is obviously the vision of the woman which is questioned, as well as the rupture between the generations.

The direction is meticulous, implacable, and even if we know that the crime will never be solved, the suspense remains intact and the film is surprising from start to finish. Above all, the actors are incredible. Bouli Lanners and Bastien Bouillon, who both won awards for their performances, carry the film on their shoulders and make The Night of the 12th a ruthless thriller that surprised at the Césars.

Synopsis of The Night of the 12th

Every investigator at the PJ comes across a crime that he or she can't solve and that haunts them. For Yohan, it's Clara's murder. The interrogations follow one another, the suspects are not lacking, and Yohan's doubts keep growing. Only one thing is certain: the crime took place on the night of the 12th.
