Grégory Gadebois and Lambert Wilson share the poster of a pretty comedy signed by Eric Besnard(Délicieux, L'Esprit de Famille). Les Choses Simples, shot in a sublime nature, is expected in theaters on February 22, 2023.
In this feature film, the director also surrounded himself with Marie Gillain, for a film shot entirely in natural settings, in a magnificent nature, where the director Eric Besnard invites us to slow down to appreciate the small things.
Our opinion
One is rich, philanthropic, has all the success in the world, but he lacks the main thing: happiness. The other is gruff, quiet, rustic, but would prefer to open up to the one he loves. Their meeting will initially be full of lies and bitterness, but in a dream setting in the countryside, Vincent (Lambert Wilson) and Pierre (Grégory Gadebois) will get to know each other and appreciate what the other has to offer. The pitch of the film may seem cliché, but it's only the beginning that is. A twist arrives fairly quickly in the script that reshuffles the deck.
One might expect yet another film about a city dweller who learns to appreciate life again by moving to the country, but not at all. The plot of the film is not the one we expect, and becomes instead a beautiful plea to live one's dreams and give oneself the means to accomplish them. The result is a nice film full of good feelings, and its emotion is rather effective! Lambert Wilson and Grégory Gadebois are there for a lot. The two actors are delightful and take great pleasure in playing their characters, it shows. Their alchemy is palpable and delights the viewer.
However, it should be kept in mind that The Simple Things is a film rather adapted to an older audience, it may not be suitable for the whole family, where the youngest will not find their account.
Vincent is a famous entrepreneur who has succeeded in everything. One day, a car breakdown on a mountain road temporarily interrupts his frantic race. Pierre, who lives away from the modern world in the middle of a sublime nature, comes to his aid and offers him hospitality. The meeting between these two men, who are at odds with each other, will upset their respective certainties. And they will be surprised to laugh. Deep down, are they really each living the lives they want to live?
