After American director, screenwriter and actress Greta Gerwig last year, it'sactress Juliette Binoche 's turn to take on the role of President of the Jury for the 78th Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 13 to 24, 2025.
With a career spanning 70 films and 40 years shooting with some of the greatest French and international filmmakers (Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg, Abel Ferrara, Olivier Assayas, Leos Carax, Claire Denis, Amos Gitaï, Hirokazu Kore-eda and Hou Hsiao-hsien), The woman who made her Cannes debut in 1985 alongside André Téchiné will have the onerous task of presenting the Palme d'Or and the other prizes awarded at the end of the festival, in the company of a jury yet to be announced.
As President of the Jury, she becomes the third female director (after Jane Campion in 2014 and Greta Gerwig in 2024) to hold this prestigious position. Juliette Binoche also won the Prix d'interprétation at Cannes in 2010 for her role in Abbas Kiarostami's Copie conforme.
"I'm looking forward to sharing these moments of life with the members of the Jury and the public. In 1985, I climbed the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I would return 40 years later in this honorary role of President of the Jury. I weigh up the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility," declared the woman in question.
