Rien à perdre, Delphine Deloget's first film, presented at Cannes in the Un Certain Regard selection. The film, starring Virginie Efira, opens in cinemas on November 22.

Rien à perdre, the first film written and directed by Delphine Deloget, was presented in the Un Certain Regard selection at the Cannes Film Festival. The drama stars Virginie Efira alongside Jean-Luc Vincent and Félix Lefebvre, and tells the story of Sylvie, a mother faced with her son's placement in a foster home. Scheduled for release on November 22.

Sylvie, played by Virginie Efira, lives in Brest with her two children, Sofiane and Jean-Jacques. The three of them form a close-knit family. One day, while Sylvie is at work and Sofiane is home alone, the latter is injured. Following a report, Sofiane is placed in a home. With the help of a lawyer and her brothers, Sylvie is convinced that she can overcome the administrative and legal machinery to get her son back.

Hot on the heels of L'amour et les forêts, Virginie Efira once again establishes herself as one of today's finest French actresses, with this role of a jilted mother whose son is taken away from her. But she's not the only actress of note! India Hair also returns to the festival after Jeanne Du Barry. In short, Delphine Deloget has surrounded herself well for her first film!

And that's understandable, given how well written it is! Rien à Perdre is morally hyperambiguous, because when you step back from the situation presented, you know that placement is best for the child. But it's an emotional wrench, often filmed in close-up, that overwhelms the viewer as much as the characters. It's a great pleasure to follow a story that is never binary.

We're never quite sure what the director's point of view is, which adds a layer of ambiguity to this twisted, beautifully written script.
