Le Théorème de Marguerite is a drama directed and written by Anna Novion. Presented as a Special Screening at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the film stars Ella Rumpf as Marguerite, a brilliant mathematics student at the ENS. She co-stars with Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Julien Frison.
Marguerite is a talented young mathematician, the only girl in her class at the ENS. Her life is turned upside down when she discovers an error in her thesis, shaking her certainties. Determined to leave everything behind and start afresh, she wipes the slate clean and plunges into reality.
Along the way, Marguerite discovers autonomy, befriends young Léa and experiences love for the first time. It's thanks to these new experiences and this new impetus that she will finally find the solution to her theorem.
Marguerite's Theorem explores the personal and academic challenges facing women in science. The film reflects on the quest for identity, resilience and the ability to reinvent oneself in the face of failure.
