Le Théorème de Marguerite is a drama directed and written by Anna Novion. Presented as a Special Screening at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, the film stars Ella Rumpf as Marguerite, a brilliant mathematics student at the ENS. She co-stars with Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Julien Frison.
Marguerite is a talented young mathematician, the only girl in her class at the ENS. Her life is turned upside down when she discovers an error in her thesis, shaking her certainties. Determined to leave everything behind and start again, she wipes the slate clean and plunges into reality.
Along the way, Marguerite discovers independence, befriends young Léa and has her first experience of love. It's thanks to these new experiences and this new impetus that she will finally find the solution to her theorem.
Marguerite's Theorem explores the personal and academic challenges faced by women in science. The film reflects on the quest for identity, resilience and the ability to reinvent oneself in the face of failure.
