With L'Arche de Noé (Noah's Ark), Bryan Marciano devotes his first film to the story of several fates of young LGBT+ teens in situations of family breakdown. The film is due to hit cinemas on November 22, 2023.
Valérie Lemercier plays Noëlle, the director of an association dedicated to welcoming young LGBT+ people rejected by their families, and Finnegan Oldfield plays her latest recruit. The film follows their day-to-day frustrations, struggles and administrative inconsistencies. Of course, it's worth noting the presence of all the actors who play the association's beneficiaries. All the actors deliver a fine performance, in a film with an essential theme: welcoming those whom no one wants to welcome any more.
And we're touched by the fate of each and every one of these people, all the more so when we know that they are inspired by real-life experiences. We do, however, regret that the script is sometimes a little too simplistic, and that some of the lines are a little out of place. With a subject like this, you're bound to walk on eggshells, but in the case of Noah's Ark, sometimes they break. Some characters are ambiguous, while certain clichés persist. The whole thing lacks surprise, and the usual screenplay tropes find their way into the film, with the classic twists and turns of this kind of story: a man finds himself against his will in an environment about which he is full of clichés, but will learn to overcome them to help the people around him.
