Abderrahmane Sissako's "Black Tea", starring Nina Mélo and Han Chang, is due for release on February 28, 2024.

Director Abderrahmane Sissako, acclaimed for"Timbuktu", returns with his new film,"Black Tea", in cinemas from February 28, 2024. Appropriately rooted in the universal themes of love and the desire for emancipation, this seminal, authentic film features a brilliant cast including Nina Mélo, Han Chang, Wu Ke-Xi, Michael Chang and Isabelle Kabano.

Based on a true story,"Black Tea" recounts the moving and human challenge of Aya, a young Ivorian woman in her thirties, played by Nina Mélo, who defies the current of society to follow her heart. Aya's refusal to give in to social pressure and get married offers a glimpse into her strong independent character. Emigrating to Asia, she finds herself working in a tea export store with middle-aged Cai, played by Han Chang.

As they both navigate this new and unusual dynamic, a romance develops, causing turmoil not only in their personal lives, but also in the face of societal prejudice.

Abderrahmane Sissako, renowned for his previous works exploring themes of identity and culture, puts his unmistakable savoir-faire to work in"Black Tea". The Mauritanian-Malian director is not afraid to confront the difficult questions of prejudice and personal freedom, through the prism of an intercultural love story set against the backdrop of the tea industry.

"Black Tea", plays on the contrasts between tradition and contemporary aspirations, heart and reason, East and West. It symbolizes the infusion of cultures, challenges and love, just like the tea-making process. It promises to be a sensitizing and evocative look at humanity through an unconventional love story in the world of tea.

Abderrahmane Sissako 's cinema has never been more relevant. His latest opus,"Black Tea", promises to be a tale of hope, love, poetry and challenge. Get ready to enjoy this incredible work from February 28, 2024.
