When three childhood friends stage a prank gone wrong, they invent an imaginary friend, Ricky Stanicky, to get out of trouble! Twenty years after creating this 'friend', Dean, JT and Wes(Zac Efron, Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler) are still using the nonexistent Ricky as a convenient alibi for their immature behavior. But when their spouses and partners begin to suspect something and demand to finally meet the notorious Mr. Stanicky, the guilty trio decide to hire fallen actor and vulgar celebrity impersonator,"Rock Hard" Rod(John Cena), to materialize him. However, when Rod takes his role of the century a little too personally, they begin to regret ever having invented Ricky.
