In 2022, Roger Federer announced his retirement after 24 years, 103 titles, including 20 Grand Slams, and numerous records. The tennis legend is to be the subject of a documentary, directed by Oscar-winner Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia, to be released on the Prime Video streaming platform. Tennis fans will discover the last twelve days of Federer's career, in intimate footage, during the Laver Cup.
Originally an amateur video, it was not intended for public viewing, but only"toshow to my family and friends", said the tennis player. The documentary shows Federer at his most vulnerable as he bids farewell to the public and to the professional tennis that has shaped his life for so many years. There are also interviews with his legendary rivals and friends, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, giving an insight into their day-to-day relationships.
"We captured so many powerful moments, it turned into a deeply personal journey. I'm delighted to be associated with Prime Video because of their international reach and importance in the film industry," says Roger Federer, who tends to avoid the cameras.
