"Maybe it was my last match at Roland-Garros". These were the words of Novak Djokovic at a press conference on Friday June 6, 2025, following his defeat by Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the Paris tennis tournament. Tennis fans had been preparing for this for years: one by one, the legends of a generation were disappearing from the courts, from Federer to Nadal, and the Serbian would certainly soon be leaving too.
It's not yet certain, of course, as it will depend on Novak Djokovic'sform next year, but at 38, the tennis player is beginning to tire on the court. This semi-final match ended in an emotional defeat for the Serb, who touched the clay before leaving the court, as a last goodbye, just in case. Already nostalgic, he commented that hehad "never experienced such great support from the public here", indicating that this was why he was"overwhelmed by emotion at the end".
He adds that while he will be playing at Wimbledon, his favorite tournament, and then certainly at the US Open, what happens next is far less clear. In the meantime, the new generation will face off in the final, not to be missed on Sunday June 8, 2025.
