Directed by Frank Marshall, producer of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Jurassic World: The World After, and Thom Zimny, whose credits include Sly: Stallone by Stallone and Western Stars, The Beach Boys documentary promises a deep dive into the history of this band that marked generations.
With a screenplay by Mark Monroe, of The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart fame, this documentary draws on rare footage and exclusive interviews with band members - Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks, Blondie Chaplin, Bruce Johnston, Carl and Dennis Wilson - as well as testimonials from music figures such as Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder and Don Was, enriching the narrative with audio from Ricky Fataar.
The documentary The Beach Boys aims to highlight the group's monumental impact on pop music, embodying the Californian dream through their legendary songs. The film's narrative follows the band's journey from humble beginnings to worldwide fame, offering viewers intimate, never-before-seen moments that mark the Beach Boys' history.
Alongside the documentary, fans will be able to discover or rediscover the music of the Beach Boys through the film' s soundtrack, available for streaming and download from May 24. A special event is also planned for collectors and vinyl aficionados: the limited-edition release of the famous album Shut Down, Vol. 2 on blue and white marbled vinyl on March 29. On April 2, the official book The Beach Boys by The Beach Boys promises to offer readers never-before-published anecdotes and stories from the band, helping to immortalize their legacy.
The Beach Boys on Disney+ is billed as a must-see documentary for music fans, offering a fresh and deeply respectful look at one of the most influential bands in pop music history.
