Lara Croft is definitely everywhere! After an animated series starring Hayley Atwell on Netflix and the re-release of a videogame opus on Nintendo Switch, Tomb Raider is making a comeback on the small screen (at least on SVOD platforms) with a new live-action series scheduled for release on Prime Video. At least, that's what Amazon announced on May 14, 2204.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, famous for her role in Fleabag and her work on the screenplay for Mourir peut attendre, is at the helm as writer and executive producer. As for the release date of this series, it still remains a mystery, forgotten deep in a tomb or temple and surrounded by treasures...
The adaptation is based directly on the video game franchise of the same name, centered on the adventures of world-renowned archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft. Phoebe Waller-Bridge shares her enthusiasm for the project: " Tomb Raider has played an important role in my life, and I feel incredibly privileged to bring it to television with such passionate collaborators," she explains. She adds that the series will be an opportunity to do something " dangerous and exciting ", a challenge she seems ready to take up, given her previous experience in the action-adventure genre, such as the last Indiana Jones, in which she played one of the leading roles.
The project is not the first of its kind for Amazon, which has already enjoyed notable success with the Fallout series, created in close collaboration with Bethesda. Alongside the series, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games are also joining forces to develop a new Tomb Raider game. This promises to be a single-player narrative action-adventure game, marking a whole new chapter in the legendary explorations of Lara Croft.
With an iconic figure like Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm, Tomb Raider on Prime Video looks set to be THE must-see series for fans of the archaeologist and adventurer. All we have to do now is wait...
