The new series The Voice of the Lake, directed by Alma Har'el, will be released on Apple TV+ on July 19, 2024. This dramatic thriller stars Natalie Portman, known for her roles in Black Swan and Jackie, and Moses Ingram, revealed by The Lady's Game. Y'lan Noel completes this promising cast. Set in 1960s Baltimore, this series plunges into a complex investigation involving disappearances and personal struggles.
The Voice of the Lake begins in 1966, during Thanksgiving in Baltimore, when a young girl mysteriously disappears, plunging the city into turmoil. Maddie Schwartz, played by Natalie Portman, is a Jewish housewife who aspires to reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. Meanwhile, Cleo Sherwood, played by Moses Ingram, is a mother navigating the political challenges of Baltimore's black community while struggling to provide for her family. Their lives, though distinct, eventually intersect in fatal ways when Maddie becomes obsessed with Cleo's mysterious death, threatening to expose dangerous secrets and upend their respective worlds.
La Voix du Lac targets an adult audience with a taste for psychological thrillers and historical dramas. Those who enjoyed Sharp Objects and Mindhunter will find here a plot rich in suspense and emotion. The series stands out for its profound exploration of the themes of identity, social justice and the price of pursuing one's dreams.
The Voice of the Lake promises to be a must-see series of summer 2024 on Apple TV+. With bold direction by Alma Har'el and poignant performances by Natalie Portman and Moses Ingram, this adaptation of Laura Lippman 's novel is a dramatic thriller that explores the depths of the human soul and the sacrifices required to uncover the truth.
