After The Acolyte, Star Wars soon back on Disney+... Skeleton Crew, the series based on the space saga imagined by Dave Filoni, will once again plunge fans into a galaxy far, far away on the SVOD platform. The series is set in the Star Wars timeline just after Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, and features a fine cast including Jude Law and Nick Frost.
The Star Wars Skeleton Crew series will be broadcast on Disney+ from December 4, 2024.
Synopsis: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four children who, after a mysterious discovery on their seemingly peaceful planet, find themselves lost in an unknown and dangerous galaxy. While searching for a way home, they cross paths with Jod Na Nawood.
A series imagined by Dave Filoni for fans of the space saga, of course. Its Goonies-style plot may also appeal to fans of the film, and by extension of the genre.
Skeleton Crew awaits you on Disney+ from December, and promises hours of Star Wars storytelling just the way we like it. All we have to do now is wait for its arrival on the platform. And in the meantime , if you haven't already, we'd love to fill you in on The Acolyte!
Our review of Skeleton Crew :
HasDisney changed direction with its Star Wars productions? That's what Skeleton Crew seems to be showing us, so much so that the series seems to be going off the beaten track. For here, there's little in the way of Force, lightsabers or Jedi... Not even an overexposure of the New Republic, which plays a very minor role. Instead, the story focuses on four children's adventures among the pirates. It's a clever mix of The Goonies and Treasure Island, even exaggerating certain clichés (such as the one-eyed SM-33 droid with a "wooden leg"). But the references are there.
The four young heroes, too, are fairly clichéd in their genre, or at least have their own singularity: there's the rebellious young girl who's a pain in the ass, the dreamer who reveals himself as he goes along, the thoughtful friend who's always there when things get tough, and the queen of mechanics with cybernetic implants (we'll let you guess who's who).... And strangely enough, it works quite well. Perhaps this is due to the cast's good chemistry.
As for the story, each episode brings the young heroes a little closer to their goal: to find their planet after having left it without really wanting to. It's a bit of a soap opera, and that's what keeps us coming back for the next episode. A dynamic narrative, albeit uneven if you compare some episodes to others.
All the same, Skeleton Crew is a breath of fresh air for Star Wars productions, and well worth a look. A series well worth the detour, even if you know nothing about the universe. A must-see for the curious!
