Directed by Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2), The Strangers: Chapter 2 continues the famous horror saga that began in 2008. Written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, this new installment stars Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) as Maya, alongside Gabriel Basso, Rachel Shenton, and Richard Brake. The film will be released in theaters in France on October 29, 2025.
In this direct sequel, Maya tries to rebuild her life after surviving a deadly attack. But the mysterious intruders are back, determined to finish what they started. Alone and hunted, the young woman faces another night of terror where the line between reality and nightmare blurs.
The story retains the oppressive atmosphere of a home invasion while introducing a more psychological dimension. Harlin favors confined spaces and continuous sensory tension to accentuate fear and survival.
Filming took place in Slovakia, alongside Chapter 1 and the upcoming Chapter 3. The director announces a different approach to fear, one that is more intimate and rooted in the psychology of the main character. The trilogy, produced by Lionsgate, aims to modernize the franchise without altering its dark visual identity and tense pace.
The film is aimed at fans of psychological thrillers and immersive horror films. Its closed-door atmosphere, precise staging, and theme of survival in a domestic setting are reminiscent of references such as Funny Games and You're Next.
