The Pitt has won for the second consecutive year the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. While its second season also earned Noah Wyle a new acting accolade, the medical drama from R. Scott Gemmill is already laying the groundwork for its next chapter: HBO Max has released the first trailer for the third season, slated for January 2027, with no exact air date confirmed yet.
Produced by John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television, The Pitt follows an emergency response team in Pittsburgh. Shot in real time, each episode runs the length of a one-hour shift, weaving medical decisions, internal department dynamics, and the constraints of the American healthcare system.
The first trailer for season 3 is out.
Around Noah Wyle, Patrick Ball will reprise the role of Dr. Langdon, Katherine LaNasa will play Dana Evans, Fiona Dourif returns as Dr. McKay, Taylor Dearden will portray Dr. King, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos, and Gerran Howell as Dr. Whitaker. Sepideh Moafi returns as Dr. Al-Hashimi and Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Abbot. The new guard that will structure the episodes has yet to be detailed.
The second season, comprised of 15 episodes and aired from January to April 2026, follows another on‑duty day in a hospital ward now facing sweltering summer heat. It earned 26 nominations at the 2026 Emmy Awards: in addition to Outstanding Drama Series, Noah Wyle took the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Ernest Harden Jr. won for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, and the show was honored for its ensemble cast. This tally covers episodes that have already aired, not season 3. Season 1 had won five Emmys in 2025, including Outstanding Drama Series.
R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, Noah Wyle, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan and Eli Attie are among the executive producers for season three. The total number of episodes has not yet been announced. To see the remaining honorees, check out our Emmy Awards 2026 winners list.
