The Andor series, created by Tony Gilroy and produced by Lucasfilm, returns for a second and final season. Set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the series follows the Star Wars universe as it explores the evolution of Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna. He finds himself at the heart of a growing conflict between the Empire and the Rebellion, against a backdrop of political tension and clandestine struggle.
Andor will be broadcast exclusively on Disney+ from April 23, 2025.
Synopsis: Against a backdrop of impending war, Cassian Andor plays an increasingly central role within the Rebel Alliance. As tensions escalate, betrayals and sacrifices multiply, testing everyone's loyalty.
This 12-episode season, divided into four chapters, will offer in-depth development of the characters and their dilemmas. As creator and executive producer Tony Gilroy points out: " One of the great pleasures of this shoot is the breadth of the story and the variety of character profiles it offers to meet, from ordinary people to imperial overlords to revolutionaries driven by unshakeable faith ".
The cast includes Diego Luna (Cassian Andor), Stellan Skarsgård (Luthen Rael), Genevieve O'Reilly (Mon Mothma), Denise Gough (Dedra Mero), Kyle Soller (Syril Karn) and Forest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera). Alan Tudyk also joins the cast as the droid K-2SO. Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz and Alonso Ruizpalacios will direct, while Tony Gilroy, Beau Willimon, Dan Gilroy and Tom Bissell will write.
Review of Andor season 2 (2025):
Season 2 ofAndor was eagerly awaited, after a very fine season 1, just as powerful as the film of which the series is a prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We were especially eager to find out how Tony Gilroy, the showrunner of the series (and incidentally one of the screenwriters of Rogue One), was going to bridge the gap between the storylines of season 1 and the film, since this new batch of episodes concludes the adventures of Cassian Andor before his meeting with Jyn Erso.
And we weren't disappointed: in its entirety (and to avoid spoilers), this season 2 ofAndor is masterful, just like the first season, in terms of the plots that continue and the new ones that bring their share of subjects to tackle. Andor season 2 concludes almost all of its acts while opening up others, bringing additional depth to the story while making it stick to Rogue One: a Star Wars Story. So it's a bit of a shoehorn, certainly, but it's complicated to finish all these plots in a single season, to tie in with the film.
We particularly appreciate the political dimension, tackled more abruptly here than in any other Star Wars series or feature film. We discover the rebellion from every angle, from the simplest spy to the Senate goldsmiths, and the dark sides as well as the praiseworthy actions. Everything comes together nicely in this whirlwind of intrigue and action, and a cat-and-mouse game that will eventually lead to Rogue One. In short, a must-see for all fans!
The series will air three episodes a week, corresponding to the different narrative chapters. This second season will conclude the character's story, laying the groundwork for the events leading up to Rogue One and the original Star Wars saga.
