In the old Grottegroin castle, a mad scientist keeps tinkering with, and cobbling together, a troupe of zany monsters. P’tit Cousu, his first creation slowly slipping from memory, tags along with new arrivals and tends the balance of the place. The arrival of a traveling circus shakes up this routine: its owner, Fulbert Montremonstre, is on the hunt for a fresh attraction and spots P’tit Cousu as a potential breakout star.
The film leans on the familiar beats of monster stories, steering them toward a family-friendly adventure comedy. The castle setting, the lineup of creatures, and the circus around them lend the story a fantastical frame without tipping into horror. The tale also tackles self-acceptance, finding one's place within a group, and the need to be recognized.
Adapted from the first book in the Stitch Head series, La Fabrique des monstres marks Steve Hudson’s first feature-length animated film. The movie premiered in 2025 at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and at the Zurich Film Festival, ahead of its French theatrical release.
This VOD release extends the film's run after its theatrical release, with a family-friendly viewing option.
