Among the announcements from Festival de Cannes for the 2026 edition, Daniel Auteuil's film La Troisième Nuit has been selected for the Cannes Première section. From May 12 to 23, 2026, this category will showcase films shown in premiere screenings, often highly anticipated by audiences and industry professionals.
Two years after the excellent long-métrage Le Fil, presented in 2024 at a special screening, Daniel Auteuil is back on the Croisette for this historical drama with Antoine Reinartz and Grégory Gadebois — whom he had already directed in Le Fil. For the record, Daniel Auteuil won the Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1996 for his performance in Jaco Van Dormael's The Eighth Day.<\/p>
Synopsis : August 1942. Amid the occupation, the Vichy regime launches a massive roundup of foreign Jews. Gilbert Lesage, a young official with the Department of Social Services for Foreigners, is tasked with organizing a screening commission to decide the fate of the detainees, while Father Alexandre Glasberg, a dedicated humanitarian, works to save them. Caught between Vichy’s bureaucratic machinery and the aid networks, they must join forces to defy the state and risk the unimaginable to snatch lives from the grim fate that awaits them.
