Joo-in is a lively high school student who is popular and well-liked. When a classmate circulates a petition that the whole class signs except for her, her daily life begins to crack. Behind her carefree surface, a painful past resurface, and the film tackles it from the teenager’s perspective, revealing only what she’s ready to confront.
Yoon Ga-eun centers trauma at the heart of the narrative, but chooses not to confine her character to a single victim identity. The film examines how a once-protected teenager, surrounded and yet marked by an old assault, tries to move forward with her life, her friendships, and her first stirrings of love.
The World of Love also signals the current vitality of South Korea's independent cinema. Presented in 2025 at the Toronto International Film Festival, the film drew notice for its look at adolescence and rebuilding, ahead of its French release distributed by The Jokers Films.
