Richard Gere and Diana Silvers will star in Asymmetry, a new romantic drama from Edward Zwick. Based on Lisa Halliday’s acclaimed novel, the film follows the meeting between a celebrated author and a young editorial assistant, in a love story that pushes the boundaries.

After several years away from feature films, Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai, Legends of the Fall) returns behind the camera with Asymmetry, an adaptation of the eponymous Lisa Halliday novel, published in 2018. The Oscar-winning filmmaker returns to the realm of intimate drama to depict an unlikely relationship between two people who seem opposed in every way. In the cast, Richard Gere stars as Ezra, a 70-year-old world-renowned writer, while Diana Silvers (Booksmart, Ma) lends her talents to Alice, a young New York editorial assistant.

Romantic drama | Runtime: not disclosed
Directed by Edward Zwick | Written by Edward Zwick, Lisa Halliday and Marshall Herskovitz

The story opens with a chance encounter in Central Park. A mere exchange of glances between Alice et Ezra is enough to spark a relationship that is as discreet as it is deep. As their conversations unfold, the author finds in the young woman a space where he can show vulnerability, while Alice draws from this bond the courage to pursue her own ambitions as a writer. But their balance is threatened when this secret chapter risks being exposed to the world.

The screenplay for the film is written by Edward Zwick, Lisa Halliday, and Marshall Herskovitz, adapting the novel that stunned Anglo-Saxon critics upon its release and was named one of the standout books of the 21st century by The New York Times. Principal photography began in New York in the summer of 2026. At this stage, no release date has been announced yet for Asymmetry, which is currently in production.
