In the early 19th century, Hugh Glass, an experienced trapper, is seriously injured by a bear during an expedition. Believed to be doomed, he is abandoned by part of his group. Isolated in a hostile environment, he nevertheless tries to survive despite his injuries and the extreme conditions.
Guided by the memory of his family and driven by a desire for revenge, Glass embarks on a journey of several hundred miles. His journey becomes a struggle for survival, where the cold, hunger, and surrounding dangers test his physical and mental endurance.
Shot in natural light by Emmanuel Lubezki, the film took nearly nine months to produce in difficult weather conditions. Several directors were approached before Alejandro González Iñárritu. Leonardo DiCaprio reunites with Tom Hardy here after Inception. The feature film won three major Oscars: Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Cinematography.
The film is a survival story and a western, with immersive staging focused on nature, the harsh elements, and dramatic tension. The film is aimed at audiences attracted to stories of extreme survival, historical epics, and sensory cinematic experiences.
