An excursion goes off the radar in Babysitting 2, back on W9. Philippe Lacheau and Nicolas Benamou take the found-footage format of the first film to Brazil.

Sonia takes Franck to meet her father, Jean-Pierre, who runs an eco-friendly hotel. The guys go on an excursion with Yolande, Jean-Pierre’s mother, but don’t come back. The abandoned camera becomes a way to retrace their steps. Christian Clavier thus joins the group gathered around Philippe Lacheau and Alice David.

Released in France on December 2, 2015, this French comedy follows the found-footage format, with footage recorded by the characters revealing their misadventures.

Our review, published at the film’s theatrical release:

Babysitting 2 takes us on a delirious adventure that will amuse audiences of all stripes. We catch up with Franck (Philippe Lacheau) and the lovely Sonia (Alice David); she wants to introduce him to her father Jean-Pierre (Christian Clavier), who runs an eco-hotel in Brazil. The merry crew then embarks on a dream trip... but it soon hits a snag!

Babysitting 2 stands apart from other French comedies. Built on the very American “found footage” premise (think “recovered footage”), it leans toward films like Project X or Very Bad Trip. While the group of friends is charged with watching Jean-Pierre’s ailing mother, they head off on an excursion into the Amazon rainforest. The next day, there’s no trace of them left—only the camera they had brought along.

All the ingredients that made the first film a hit stay intact: cheeky humor, a hefty dose of good vibes, and, above all, a flurry of gags. This time, the patriarch is not Gérard Jugnot but Christian Clavier, another veteran of the famed Splendid troupe. The actor carries the baton with aplomb and remains one of the most memorable characters in the film. The standout is also Yolande, a crabby yet incredibly funny grandmother.

Between clumsy mishaps with potentially disastrous consequences, chases with locals, and a chaotic takeoff, you won’t be bored for a second!
