Rental Family – In the Lives of Others on Disney+: Brendan Fraser as a stand-in family member

Rental Family – Dans la vie des autres arrives on Disney+. In this dramedy by Hikari, Brendan Fraser plays an American actor who finds a job at a rental family agency in Japan. Released in French cinemas on February 4, 2026, the film puts his character in situations where he must initially play the part of a relative for clients.

In Tokyo, an American actor who has lost his bearings lands an unexpected job at an agency that offers "families for hire." Hired to play substitute relatives, he gradually discovers the blurred line between acting and reality. These encounters challenge his identity and his relationship with others.

Presented by Searchlight Pictures, the film marks a new chapter for Brendan Fraser following his Oscar win for The Whale. It is produced by Julia Lebedev and Eddie Vaisman for Sight Unseen Pictures, and Shin Yamaguchi for Knockonwood. Hikari also co-wrote the screenplay with Stephen Blahut. Cinematography is by Takurô Ishizaka (All of Us Strangers), while Jónsi and Alex Somers composed the original score.
