Edward Kenway sets sail again with Ubisoft! Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has surfaced once more in a trailer at the Summer Game Fest, ahead of its release on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series on July 9, 2026. Developed and published by Ubisoft, this action-adventure revisits the 2013 pirate chapter with a modernized Anvil engine, while preserving a structure close to the original.
On the gameplay front, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sticks to its exploration‑driven core: exploration, stealth, combat and sailing. Ubisoft announces a more agile parkour, with lateral moves and freer jumps better handled, as well as an infiltration overhaul aimed at being “less frustrating.” Players will progress crouched in more situations, while some tailing sequences will no longer automatically trigger desynchronization if detected. Ground combat also gains in dynamism, with perfect parries enabling quick follow‑up eliminations, while naval battles promise a more demanding feel due to rough seas and weather behaving in a more realistic way.
The game follows Edward Kenway, a rogue drawn to freedom, wealth, and fame in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. As his journey unfolds, he crosses paths with several historical figures such as Anne Bonny, Charles Vane, or Blackbeard, before being swept into the clash between Assassins and Templars. Ubisoft notes that the main narrative will stay close to the 2013 version, albeit with a few additions. Paul Fu, Creative Director at Ubisoft, talks about "new chapters, missions and arcs", notably around Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard. He also states that "the present-day rifts bring fresh moments focused on Edward’s inner conflicts", signaling a somewhat more developed handling of the contemporary sequences.
Ubisoft is highlighting a visual overhaul as one of the key highlights. The first side-by-side images show more detailed environments, denser vegetation, finer textures, and a more pronounced treatment of water, reflections, wind, and weather effects. The publisher notes, however, that the visuals shown are still work in progress, meaning the final look could still evolve before launch. The audio is also getting an upgrade, with new sea shanties and a reimagined track by Woodkid for the project.
Ubisoft has also laid out the editions on offer and the game’s PC requirements. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is available in Standard, Deluxe and Collector, the latter notably including an Edward Kenway figurine, a logbook, a fabric map, a metal pin and a steelbook.
On PC, the game will require 65 GB of SSD space and 16 GB of RAM across all disclosed configurations, with hardware demands climbing up to an RTX 4090 or a Radeon RX 7900 XTX for 4K at 60 frames per second. Now the question is how Ubisoft will balance fidelity to the original, gameplay adjustments, and the current technical expectations surrounding this remake.
