How are enemy campaigns managed in Helldivers 2? Is it a developer dedicated to the conduct of war or a program that controls the arrival of enemy waves? We take a look.

We can't stress this enough: Helldivers 2 is THE box-office hit from Arrowhead Game Studios, plunging players into a galactic war where everyone becomes an essential cog in a constantly evolving conflict. Players battle various waves of enemies(Terminids and Automatons for the moment), as the opposing side attempts to invade numerous planets and systems. But how are these enemy campaigns managed? Is someone from the studio behind it, or is it a program? Our PC Gamer colleagues have the answer.

According to our colleagues, who quote studio boss Johan Pilestedt, it's a developer from Arrowhead, with the specific title of"Game Master", who manages the war campaigns on the enemy side of Helldivers 2. His first name is Joel, and that's all we'll know about him. As Game Master, he adjusts the challenges facing players in real time, ensuring a balance between accessibility and challenge. If the Automatons are so strong, it's all his fault!

"There werea few sudden moments when a planet was perhaps too easy or too difficult, and Joel had to get up in the middle of the night to give the Automatons a nudge so that players couldn't take over the planet too quickly," explains Johan Pilestedt.

This direct interaction between the creator and the community of players lends the game an unpredictable and engaging dimension, where each session holds its share of surprises. Joel's interventions, whether reinforcing an enemy or introducing a new gameplay element, are all opportunities for players to rediscover and adapt to an ever-changing universe."We have many systems in the game to allow the Game Master to have control over the gameplay experience," continues theArrowhead boss. He continues:"It's something we're going to be constantly evolving according to what happens in the game".

A Deus ex Machina, we tell you... Get ready!
