Synopsis: Wolf Gang – The Wolf Menace

"It's July 1432 and the once peaceful city of Waloris is now under threat. The city's Grand Master has been found dead at dawn. But this is no ordinary death. He appears to have been violently bitten by a wild beast. As a member of the council, you are invited to attend the wake and a secret election in the temple crypt. But not everything will go according to plan... The hour is grave. Isor, the Guardian of the Council, has asked you to join him in the crypt as a matter of urgency. Together with all the members of the council, you will have to decide Waloris' fate. Some of you will have powers, others will wake up at night and devour the innocent members of the council. Take heed. In Waloris, even the dead have powers!

Wolf Gang: The Rules in Detail

For those unfamiliar with the game, what does it actually entail? During this experience, you'll need to investigate, across multiple day and night cycles, each member of the council (including yourself and other players). Your goal is to identify and eliminate the infiltrated werewolves before they pick off your group one by one each night. Every member of the Valoris village council (that's the name of your village) must observe the other players, debate with them, and try to expose the wolves— all while avoiding being voted out themselves, through a show of hands.

But don’t think the villagers — or council members in the original version — are powerless: some will have special abilities. For instance, they might be able to discover a player's true role (a medium here, a clairvoyant in the original), or identify the werewolves without investigation. Others can bring players back from the dead or target someone who has just been eliminated — whether by the village or a wolf (the druid in this version, the witch in the original) — or even choose to eliminate a player of their choice if they are themselves ousted (an archer in this version, the hunter in the classic).

It's worth noting that many other powers exist, some of which are specifically designed just for this experience. In the end, either the council members manage to eliminate all the werewolves and secure the win, or the werewolves succeed in taking out every villager and claim victory.

Our review of Wolf Gang - The Wolf Threat:

So, how does this Werewolf experience hold up? There's no doubt it's highly immersive, thanks to well-designed scenery and costumes—including a cape adorned with a Roman numeral—that transport you right into the theme and add a meaningful layer to the gameplay (the Roman numeral indicates a character, NDLR). The scripted nature of the experience is another highlight, with a game master—Isor—guiding you from start to finish and introducing various extra challenges to test your chances of survival.

The immersion is enhanced by the participants' special powers: a crystal ball for the medium, two authentic potions to drink for the druid, or a bow with a plastic arrow for the archer (which is actually fired). Wolves secretly leave skulls during the night to eliminate players... All these details work together to keep players engaged throughout the adventure, though the process can become a bit repetitive. Still, you won't notice the two hours fly by.

However, a few points to note: for the medium, players' statuses are revealed through a color... and when you're colorblind, that's tricky (one of our participants was, and he wasn't the medium… but the question was raised). Another potential issue—though it ultimately isn’t a real problem—is paying to skip playing after being eliminated. It doesn’t feel very nice. That's why at Wolf Gang, eliminated players still stay in the game… in a way: villagers become angels and can shield certain players, while the wolves turn into ghostly spirits that can block other players' actions. It’s a clever twist that adds depth to the game and helps keep everyone happy—without frustration.

This experience requires you to be comfortable speaking up, showcasing yourself, and taking risks. It involves campaigning for the role of council master (equivalent to the mayor in the original version) or making bold moves. Standing your ground or staying silent—even if strategically sound—won't help progress in the game. If you're not fully engaged, it could be a tricky ride... Go in with your eyes open. Plus, it doubles as a social experiment, since the public events will have you crossing paths with other players. Perfect for those looking to meet new people in a lively, interactive setting.

And rest assured for newcomers as well: there will be plenty of information to take in during the briefing, but don’t worry — you'll have guidance every step of the way, and the rules will be revisited throughout the experience (though it’s important to pay attention during the briefing). This adventure is designed to be accessible to everyone, whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned pro. And the best part? Everyone can play together, thanks to this supportive setup.

What more is there to say? The games are also available in English, but the venue isn't accessible to Disabled Persons. On the plus side, it's really well located—just next to a church and a short walk from Saint-Lazare train station. That pretty much covers everything. Now, it's up to you to see for yourself.
