Attention history and virtual reality enthusiasts! Viality Tour invites you to discover its new virtual reality experience, Le Louvre à travers l'histoire, starting April 5, 2025. An immersive outdoor guided tour in VR, immersing you in the evolution of the most emblematic of Parisian monuments, from the 13th to the 19th century.
This new itinerary, developed over a period of more than two years, invites you to discover the metamorphoses of the Louvre and its surroundings in different eras. The concept? A historical walk accompanied by a guide, punctuated by stops where you don a VR headset to experience historical reconstructions in 360°, directly from the places where they took place.
The starting point is in front of the Louvre's colonnade, where the guide equips you for the journey. At each stop, you'll be invited to experience scenes from the past: the medieval Louvre, the Palais des Tuileries, the transformation of the palace into a museum, the surrounding streets at different times... A play of superimpositions between past and present that gives a whole new reading of the place.
The sounds of Paris in days gone by, the silhouettes of the people or the royal court, the buildings of another era... It's all there, carefully modeled to immerse you in a striking historical atmosphere. The guide stays by your side to comment on the environment, describe what you're seeing, and enrich your immersion with historical anecdotes and architectural landmarks.
Our opinion:
Whether you're a tourist looking for a historical and cultural tour, or a Parisian who loves the Louvre, this virtual reality experience is for you! Yes, even if you think you know everything about this iconic Parisian landmark, you've never seen it quite like this! We had already tested Viality Tour 's VR on their first experience, at the Eiffel Tower, in 2022, and so were able to observe the improvements since then.
Suitable for ages 8 and up, this immersion in history lasts just over an hour and is ideal for adults and curious children alike, who want to experience a journey through time, from medieval times to the disappearance of the Tuileries Palace during the Commune. It's an opportunity for small groups to retrace the capital's vast history in a fun and educational way, so much so that you'll never see the Louvre in the same way again!
Like many other monuments, the Palais des Tuileries has now disappeared from the landscape, and this tour lets us see its construction and tragic destruction with our own eyes, as if we were there! At the time of our visit, the Cour Carrée was closed for works, so we began the experience in front of the Pavillon Sully, opposite the Pyramid, before finishing not far from the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. We loved being able to take off the VR headset and compare past and present so easily, in real time!
Plunged into the past, we observe the architecture in 360 degrees, the inhabitants in motion - the realism being pushed so far that we even come across cats chasing rats out of the capital (which, by the way, is much smaller than it is today) - and the changes from century to century, guided by Vladina's voice, who distills anecdotes and sometimes asks questions for a very pleasant interactive side.
If you've never experienced VR, this is a good start, as the headset is very easy to use (and good news, you can keep your glasses on!). Beware, however, if you're prone to vertigo, as some shots feature a flyover, so it's best to sit down! It's a real historical reconstruction mixed with technology, and the aesthetics of the images aren't exactly the same as for indoor VR, as you'll be experiencing them outdoors, so don't expect the visual realism of the latest video games.
Please note that admission to the Louvre is not included, and we recommend that you visit it before or after to enjoy it even more!
So, are you ready to travel back in time to the heart of historic Paris? The Louvre is waiting for you to relive its centuries of transformations!
