Ready to raise the black flag? At Donjon de Paris, near République, the escape game Nouveau Monde drops players into an adventure built on puzzles, a crew, and a treasure to be recovered. An immersive experience designed to test teamwork before you set sail... We gave it a try—here's what we found.

The whiff of gunpowder, rum, and well-guarded chests is in the air! Le Donjon de Paris, the escape-room brand just steps from Place de la République, has been ready to welcome you since late April to dive into Nouveau Monde, a pirate escape game built for puzzle fans and crew-based adventure. An immersive room that blends a maritime mood, pirate clashes, and treasure hunts, all while keeping true to the escape-game ethos.

Synopsis of The New World at Le Donjon:

Pirates! Lord Count has recruited you to set sail for the Fountain of Youth. Cardinal Richelieu has dispatched Captain Terrisse to destroy the temple. As with several other rooms in the chain, you’ll have 75 minutes to solve the puzzles and reach the famous fountain. The adventure is accessible from 12 years old when accompanied by an adult, or 16 and up otherwise. The room is also available in English for foreign visitors who want to try the experience between sightseeing visits.

Our take on the escape game New World at Le Donjon:

We got a first look at this room a few days after it opened. The meetup point is set around Place de la République (we’ll keep the exact spot under wraps to preserve a little mystery) to embark on a quest—tracking down the Fountain of Youth for Count Richelieu. A young pirate greets you at the door, shepherds you inside, and explains the game’s flow, which lasts 75 minutes. What follows stays with us as true adventurers’ memories… unless you decide to book your own session!

Our takeaways:

First, this is more of a story room than a traditional escape game. You won’t be escorted the entire time, and you’ll make solid progress solving puzzles piece by piece with your group; but here there’s no real “you lose if you fail” moment: everyone reaches the end of the tale. Several actors are on hand to interact with you throughout the adventure, in one way or another.

A few caveats: the rooms are fairly tight. If you’re claustrophobic, you can still give it a go, but you’ve been warned. You won’t be crawling, but some passages are narrow. On the upside, there’s impressive ceiling height that helps balance things out.

Another factor: it gets very wet… a lot. Dress accordingly—light clothing is best (yes, even in winter). If you’ve got waterproof shoes, that’s a definite plus. Go roomy with your outfit and don’t fear a little dirt: heels and formal attire are not the vibe here, and your clothes will likely get splashed or soaked.

A word on the décor: ultra immersive, and densely layered. You’ll want to watch your step to avoid knocking anything over. As for the puzzles, they skew on the accessible side—easy enough for newcomers but with a bit of a challenge for seasoned players who won’t feel left out.

We proceed carefully, especially toward the end, where you’ll have to slide through a tight spot… We won’t spill more, but you’ve been warned—bumps and scrapes can happen. Otherwise, have fun—the whole point, after all. You’ve got all the cards in hand now.

All that remains is to book your session at Le Donjon to learn more... Let’s board!
