Since the end of 2021, an unusual building has stood on the Champ de Mars, where there was usually nothing. It's the Grand Palais Ephémère, a temporary installation designed to host and organize temporary exhibitions and festivals until the Grand Palais reopens.

Indeed, for several years now, the Grand Palais - a building easily recognized by its large glass roof from any vantage point in Paris - has been undergoing major renovation work, until 2024 for the Games' fencing events, and until 2025 for the rest of the building.

So, instead of keeping this cultural venue closed, the Grand Palais Éphémère was born: designed byarchitect Jean-Michel Wilmotte using sustainable materials, the building was conceived to reproduce the curves of the Grand Palais.

For the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Grand Palais Éphémère becomes theArena Champ-de-Mars, an ephemeral sports center designed to host judo, wrestling and wheelchair rugby events. With its 10,000 m² of floor space, the venue will be dismantled in autumn 2024 after hosting the final Paralympic events.

The Palais Éphémère is open according to the exhibitions it hosts and other festivals. To get there by public transport, take metro lines 6, 8 or 10 and get off at "la Motte-Picquet Grenelle" or "École Militaire" station.
