In 1937, on the occasion of the ParisWorld Fair , a new kind of museum was created: the Palais de la Découverte was designed to showcase innovations and practical science, through various experiments carried out in real time, in front of visitors. The aim of this museum was to popularize scientific practices. Housed in the west wing of the Grand Palais, the museum quickly won over the public.

In the face of such enthusiasm, the French government decided to perpetuate the Palais de la Découverte, which was originally intended as a short-lived event.

Mathematics, astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine: all fields of science are explored and exhibited. From 1937 to the present day, the Palais de la Découverte has grown and evolved to become an essential part of Parisian culture. Through exhibitions, conferences, meetings and experiments, the museum has found its audience.

Nearly 90 years after its inauguration, the Palais de la Découverte is getting a facelift. The work undertaken should give this museum a completely new face, as it renews and modernizes its cultural offering. After long years of waiting, Parisians can't wait to rediscover this place and its programming.

In the meantime, you can keep up to date with all the latest museum news by visiting Les Etincelles, an ephemeral space set up in the heart of the Parc André Citroën.
