An update on the day's opponents

Founded in 1899, Olympique de Marseille is one of the few clubs to have played in its first Ligue 1 season in 1932, and is still doing so today. After a series of ascents and descents into Ligue 2 in the 1960s, and a veritable dark period, the arrival of Bernard Tapie revived the club, which racked up back-to-back titles. Since then, OM's performances have fluctuated from season to season, and the club has struggled to maintain its position, despite often being at the top of the league table.

The club, one of the most successful in the French championship, is no longer theonly one to have won a Champions League, in 1993. It has also won the Coupe de France ten times and topped the French championship 9 times.
