A start in Florence and a finish in Nice? Decidedly, the2024 edition of the Tour de France will be unlike any other, and will take us to a few more countries than usual. As La Gazzetta dello Sport already announced in 2022, the 2024 Tour de France will not arrive on the Champs-Elysées in Paris as it does every year, but rather in Nice, because of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, to avoid overloading the city.
The start would be in Florence on Saturday, June 29, 2024, on Piazzale Michelangelo, and the finish in Nice on July 21, 2024. Dates very close to those of the long-awaited summer event, the Olympic Games in the French capital, which will take place from July 26 to August 11. A first since the beginning of the Grande Boucle, and its third edition in 1905. However, the tradition is set to resume the following year, in 2025.
Italy was the only neighbouring country never to have hosted a Tour de France start. The final stage will start in Monaco and finish in Nice in a rugged 35km individual time-trial. In the meantime, we're enjoying the final days of the 2023 edition, with the arrival of the traditional cyclists.
