Every year, over half a million people gather here. This traditional event has been held since 1930, on the initiative of the press organization founded by Jean Jaurès. Yes, you've probably guessed it, I'm talking about the Fête de l'Humanité, more commonly known as the Fête de l'Huma!
After being forced to cancel its 2020 edition due to the health crisis, the Fête de l'Huma returned to La Courneuve, in Seine-Saint-Denis, in September 2021. A special edition, as it was the last to be held in La Courneuve, on the Aire des Vents site, owned by the Département de Seine-Saint-Denis.
Since 1999, the Fête de l'Huma has been held on the outskirts of the Aire des Vents at Parc Georges Valbon in La Courneuve. However, the event announced it would need to find a "new venue due to the construction of the upcoming Media Village for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics". That change has now been made: in 2022, the Fête de l'Humanité took over the former Air Base 217 in Le Plessis-Pâté, right in the heart of Essonne. For the first time in its history, the legendary Île-de-France festival—founded in 1930 by Marcel Cachin, then director of L'Humanité—has ventured onto this expansive new site. In 2026, the festival will return once again to this vast location for its 91st edition, continuing its storied tradition amid a new setting.
To experience it in the flesh and blood, make sure to mark your calendar for Friday the 11th, Saturday the 12th, and Sunday the 13th of September 2026. As always, the festival promises an eclectic lineup: music performances, a book village, a variety of live arts shows, film screenings, artistic exhibitions, and not to mention debates, roundtable discussions, and conferences.
Music lovers have long fondly remembered the legendary artists who have graced this festival, including Stevie Wonder, Cesária Évora, Noir Désir, Jimmy Cliff, Juliette Gréco, Patti Smith, and Johnny Hallyday. So, who will have the honor of performing at this new 91st edition, taking place for the fifth time in Essonne? To find out, stay tuned! The festival will soon unveil the first lineup of its 2026 edition. Plus, very soon you'll be able to discover the ticket sales opening date.
Remember, in 2025, the Hima Festival hosted an impressive lineup including Patti Smith, Eddy de Pretto, the French duo Ascendant Vierge, socially conscious rapper Fianso, Hoshi, the German techno brass band MEUTE, the Jordanian-Palestinian collective 47Soul, as well as Adé, Aliocha Schneider, and the Ogres de Barback & La Rue Kétanou. Gims, Kompromat, Youssou N'Dour, Youssoupha, Cassius, Adèle Castillon, Bagarre, Theodora, Zamdane, Saïan Supa Celebration, and Kalash also took to the stage.
