Founded in 2003 by Bartabas, within the Grande Écurie, theAcadémie Équestre de Versailles is a corps de ballet unique in the world. Each year, the company-school presents a choreographed ballet by the écuyères, a show featuring the riders and their horses in emblematic tableaux from the Académie. La Voie de l'Écuyère is back to delight children and adults alike, until May 26, 2024.
For over an hour, you'll discover the Ballet des sorayas aux longues rênes, the Carrousel chanté, fencing on horseback, and even equestrian improvisations, in a historic venue, the (unheated) manège of the Grandes Écuries de Versailles. Here, we observe the harmony between human and horse, in a high-flying show that blends a number of artistic disciplines, including dance, song, traditional Japanese bow and artistic fencing.
Every Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m., the Académie Équestre de Versailles opens its doors to you for an exceptional show, followed by a free tour of the stables. The Grande Écurie du Roi was built in 1683 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart to house the prestigious royal cavalry. It houses some of the finest carriages in French history, and is free to visit.
