Renowned playwright and directorAlexis Michalik invites us to dive into the world ofIntra Muros at the Théâtre la Pépinière in Paris. This play, which veers between reality and fiction, features Richard, a disgraced stage director, who offers an acting class in a prison, marking the start of an unpredictable theatrical adventure.
The show benefits from the presence of talented actors such as Clémentine Aussourd, Christopher Bayemi and Chloé Berthier, under the direction ofAlexis Michalik. Michalik, renowned for his narrative skills and innovative staging, has surrounded himself with a varied artistic team, including musicians such as Raphaël Bancou and Sylvain Briat, to enrich the stage experience.
Intra Muros explores the lives of two inmates, Kevin and Ange, and their interaction with Richard during an exceptional acting class. The play unfolds under a stormy threat, symbolizing the tensions and revelations that will emerge from this encounter. Between fallen hopes and unexpected redemptions, the audience is invited to reflect on freedom, art and the power of personal reinvention.
Intra Muros is aimed at audiences eager for contemporary theater that defies convention, and for those seeking to understand the human behind bars. Fans ofAlexis Michalik's work will find it to their liking, while the show may be less suited to those preferring more traditional or light-hearted narratives.
Our review:
A fast-paced play with no time for boredom! If this is another success for Alexis Michalik, it's surely one of his most interesting creations. For 1 h 45, the playwright loses us in different stories, taking us where we least expect it.
The staging, sober and effective, intelligently serves the text, especially the flashbacks. Five actors swap sets in front of you, sometimes changing roles so quickly you hardly notice. The clichés of some of the roles are well thought out, and we laugh as much as we are moved.
For theater lovers, the actors' performance is bound to win you over. As the actors alternate, we were lucky enough to discover the performance of Janik Erima in the role of Kevin, whose energy punctuates the script brilliantly. A wonderful discovery, and THE play byAlexis Michalik to discover at the theater.
