Alexis Michalik, originally an actor, took his first steps on stage in Roméo et Juliette, directed by Irina Brook. Two years later, he was accepted into the Conservatoire Nationale d'Art Dramatique in Paris but decided not to attend in order to focus on his first show, Une folle journée, an adaptation of Beaumarchais' Le Mariage de Figaro .
In 2013,Alexis Michalik created Le Porteur d'Histoire, his first play, which was a huge success. The play was performed at the Studio des Champs Elysées in 2013, returning to the Théâtre des Béliers in 2017. He then wrote Le Cercle des illusionnistes in 2014. Both plays were nominated for the2014Molières, and Alexis Michalik won the Molière for best writer and director.
In 2016, he returned with a brilliant new play,Edmond, about the writer of Cyrano de Bergerac. The play is still running today at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal and won five Molière Awards. A film adaptationwas even released in January 2019.
He wrote the famous play Intramuros in 2017, which was also critically acclaimed, and finally returned in 2020 with Une histoire d'amour, which was also adapted for the big screen in 2023 by the author himself. In 2021, he also directed Les producteurs, his first musical based on the film by Mel Brooks.
At the same time, Alexis Michalik released his first novel, Loin, in 2019, which was selected for the Renaudot des lycéens prize.
Actor, playwright, writer, director, and stage director are the different hats worn by Alexis Michalik throughout his career. His plays have all been successful, and he has won a total of six Molière Awards: two forLe Porteur d'Histoire, two forEdmond,one forUne Histoire d'Amour, and one forLes Producteurs.
