Intra Muros, a play written and directed by Alexis Michalik, continues to run at La Pépinière Théâtre in Paris in 2026. The production, staged in the 2nd arrondissement, delves into the world of a theatre workshop held inside a prison, weaving together reality, fiction, and nested narratives.
The story follows Richard, a director on the comeback, who has come to teach his first acting class in a penitentiary. He hopes to fill his workshop, but only two inmates show up: Kevin, a young, impulsive prisoner, and Ange, more reserved, who has joined to support his friend. With a social worker and a former actress, the class becomes the starting point of a tale in which their paths intersect.
The troupe announced by the theater unfolds in alternating performances and brings together, among others, Clémentine Aussourd, Christopher Bayemi, Chloé Berthier, Raphaèle Bouchard, Hocine Choutri, Jérémie Covillault, Johann Dionnet, Janik Erima, Fleur Fitoussi, Jean Fornerod, Muriel Gaudin, Magali Genoud, Thibaut Gonzalez, Antoine Kobi, Aurélie Konaté, Christian Mulot, Jean-Philippe Ricci, Fayçal Safi, Marie Sambourg, Azize Kabouche and Julien Urrutia. The music is carried, depending on the performance, by Raphaël Bancou, Sylvain Briat, Raphaël Charpentier, Mathias Louis or Killian Rebreyend.
Intra Muros speaks to audiences drawn to contemporary theatre, choral storytelling, and the narrative architectures typical of Alexis Michalik. The play also stages theatre as a space of transformation, starting from a confined setting: the prison.
Shows are scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays at 9:00 PM, Sundays at 7:00 PM through June 28, 2026, with a new schedule starting July 1: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 9:00 PM and Saturdays at 8:00 PM. The venue lists a running time of 1 hour 40 minutes.
Our earlier review still proves useful for understanding how the production is built: Intra Muros runs on a steady tempo, rapid shifts between stories, and a restrained staging that allows the five actors to switch across roles. This engine, already central when we first encountered the show, remains one of the structural pillars of the piece.
