The Tempest tells the story of Prospero, the legitimate Duke of Milan, who has been usurped by his brother Antonio and exiled to a remote island. On this island, Prospero lives with his daughter Miranda and uses his magical powers to control the island's spirits, including Ariel, an air spirit, and Caliban, a monstrous slave.
Born in 1564, Shakespeare began his career in London as an actor, writer and co-owner of the Lord Chamberlain's Men theater company, later known as the King's Men. The playwright wrote some 39 plays, 154 sonnets and two long narrative poems. His most famous works include Hamlet, Othello, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Stephanie Tesson, daughter of Philippine Tesson and co-director of Théâtre de Poche Montparnasse, is renowned for her sensitive, innovative interpretations of the classics.
