Memories fade, but family stories sometimes have a long memory! From January 28, 2027, the Théâtre de la Madeleine, in Paris’s 8th arrondissement, presents Hier encore, a new play written and directed by Laura Presgurvic. On stage, an unexpected pairing: François Berléand and Sabrina Ouazani, coming together to explore the delicate subject of Alzheimer’s disease with humor and tenderness.
The story? Éva and her father, Eli, have always been inseparable. A composer, he dreams of finishing a musical that has been giving him a hard time. But when he learns he has Alzheimer’s, time is running out. To help him rekindle his memories and complete his project, Éva organizes a big treasure hunt. But as the clues pile up, the young woman discovers that her father may not be quite the hero she imagined. ?
On the casting front, two familiar faces. François Berléand, recently applauded alongside Max Boublil in Laurent Ruquier’s L'Expérience théâtrale, also played Victor Hugo in Cédric Klapisch’s 2025 film La Venue de l'avenir. Opposite him is Sabrina Ouazani, seen in the 2025 film Des jours meilleurs and the 2026 Netflix series Recalé. Series fans will also know the actress for her role as Charlotte in Plan cœur.
For around 1 hour and 30 minutes, Hier encore aims to bring laughter and emotion together without glossing over the difficulties of illness. Music serves as a common thread in this play, as memories challenge the way we see those closest to us. It remains to be seen how this duo will strike a harmonious note on the stage at the Madeleine!
