C3RV34U, the permanent neuroludic exhibition at the Cité des Sciences

The Cité des Sciences inaugurates a new permanent space, dedicated to the brain and neurosciences, from September 16, 2014. In a surreal atmosphere, we test our brain capacities, study our brain from a physiological point of view and learn about its potential.

The Cité des Sciences and its various permanent exhibits is one of the most popular places for curious visitors and budding scientists. While there are areas devoted to sound, energy, mathematics, genetics and astronomy, there was no area devoted to neuroscience and the brain...

With the C3RV34U space, neuroscience finally has its place at the Cité des Sciences, almost 30 years after the building opened. In this space, with its surrealist-inspired scenography, you can learn more about our brains, their functions and capabilities!

Thanks to the support of Stanislas Dehaene, professor at the Collège de France and director of the Inserm-CEA jointcognitive neuroimaging unit, the (permanent) exhibition showcases the latest scientific advances in the field, while remaining accessible to curious youngsters.

The C3RV34U exhibition is divided into three sections:

  • What's inside our heads?
The first part reveals the secrets of the brain, its composition and its biological and neurological functioning. The history of scientific research is highlighted, to help us understand how science has been able to unlock the secrets of this fundamental organ. Is our brain a virgin at birth?

  • The brain is always active
The second part deals with the question of brain development and skills. Our nervous system enables us to learn, make decisions and develop. Here, a number of experiments give us an insight into brain activity!

  • The social brain
Finally, in the third part of the exhibition, the Cité des Sciences aims to highlight the importance of our social environment in the development of our brain and brain activity. Our brain's cognitive activity enables us to experience emotions and interact with other beings.

This new "neuroludic" area offers a range of workshops, shows and quizzes, complementing the range of lectures on display at the Palais de la Découverte. You'll find daily talks on sleep, memory, optical illusions and learning in rats, suitable for children aged 6 and over.
