Peter Lindbergh, the exhibition at Paris Institut Giacometti

From January 22 to March 24, 2019 the recently opened Institut Giacometti in Paris 14th arrondissement houses an exhibition of photographs taken by Peter Lindbergh.

We mostly know him for his fashion photographs. Yet German Peter Lindbergh’s (born in 1944) work is bigger and more complex. Proof of it with this exhibition housed at the Institut Giacometti focusing on the many photographs Peter Lindbergh took in 2017 in the museum’s storehouses.

The two men never met but Peter Lindbergh observed Giacometti’s (1901-1966) for a long time and offers – through his pictures – a very private interpretation, made of contrasts, sensual black and white pictures. Sculpture, through photography, looks disturbing, almost human-like. Faces seem to be about to move. And we see with even more attention the artist’s finger prints on the flesh of the bodies.

About sixty works of both artists are dialoging: the idea is to give a new light onto Giacometti’s work – Giacometti being all the rage at the moment in French museums. A unique look since it’s the first time that Peter Lindbergh’s photographs are exhibited.

An elegant event you don’t want to miss!
