A Giacometti exhibition takes place at the Musée Maillol, from September 14, 2018 to February 3, 2019. We'll have seen him just about everywhere: at the Musée Picasso, theInstitut Giacometti, the Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian... Quite simply, Alberto Giacometti is on everyone's lips.
Each exhibition has its own importance: at the Musée Maillol, Giacometti 's works converse with the great classical sculptors, as well as with the emblematic artists of modernity.
Just over 50 sculptures by Giacometti rub shoulders with 25 byAuguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, Aristide Maillol, Charles Despiau, Constantin Brancusi, Henri Laurens, Jacques Lipchitz, Ossip Zadkine, Joseph Csaky and Germaine Richier.
Entitled"Between Tradition and Modernity", the exhibition follows a chronological and thematic path. The exhibition is divided into two main sections. First, Giacometti's early works are presented, followed by sculptures that mark the changes brought about by his encounter with the Parisian avant-garde around 1925.
Of particular note: the sculpture tour is enriched by a selection ofgraphic art works and archival documents. A selection ofGiacometti' s lithographs and photographs by such 20th-century photographic greats as Brassaï, Denise Colomb, Sabine Weiss and Herbert Matter also provide a glimpse of whatGiacometti's Parisian studio was like.
