A lively spot where you can shift seamlessly from sports to culture without changing your energy: La Montgolfière, located in the 10th arrondissement, continues to explore unexpected territories. Until March 26, 2026, the venue hosts a free photography exhibition curated by Guillaume Blot. And this time, the focus is on roadside diners.
Trained at Les Gobelins and CELSA, the documentary photographer has spent several years creating a deeply personal map of everyday France: cafes, taverns, community spots, and familiar faces. After capturing the Stade de la Beaujoire, he hit the road. Over six summers, he drove through regions in his Volkswagen van—his "Blotmobile"—visiting more than 120 establishments out of the 700 still in operation. Once upon a time, there were thousands, identifiable by their blue and red "Les Routiers" emblems, especially along the legendary RN7.
At La Montgolfière Canal, the exhibition showcases a series of portraits, everyday scenes, and intimate details captured "at table level." It's lively, authentic, and offers a genuine glimpse into diverse social worlds.
Like Martin Parr, who shares a love for flash photography, Guillaume Blot unveils the absurd with a touch of humor. Whether shot on film or digital, he enhances colors, captures spontaneous frames, and embraces a raw aesthetic. His warm and human photographs create an unexpected bridge between the road and the museum, offering a quirky stop in the Republique neighborhood!
